Riverview IU#6 hosted the Education Leadership Conference 2017 (ELC) on June 14, 2017 at the Gemmell Student Center at Clarion University of PA. The event was the fourth overall, and third consecutive conference. Riverview IU#6 worked with Clarion University of PA to host the conference. The day brought together more than 100 K-12 teachers, administrators, technology staff, higher education staff, college and graduate students, and vendors. The conference offered a keynote speaker, breakout sessions, poster sessions and vendor tables.
This year’s keynote speaker was Carl Hooker. Carl is the Director of Innovation & Digital Learning in the Eanes Independent School District. As director, he utilizes his background in both education and technology to bring a unique vision to the district and its programs.
Carl has been a part of a strong educational shift with technology integration since becoming an educator. From his start as a teacher to his current district technology leadership role, he’s always had one common belief– the kids need to drive their own learning. He realized the challenges in our current public educational institutions and meets them head on. His unique blend of educational background, technical expertise and humor make him a successful driving force for this change.
Following the keynote address, the schedule was set up for attendees to choose 5 out of 29 available breakout sessions. A vendor area was set up for attendees to explore a variety of educational and technical products and services. The conference was broken into "tracks" including Administration, Technical (Plugs and Wires), Educational Technology, STE(A)M, and Education related topics (in general). For more information on the conference, visit our website at www.riu6.org or follow the hashtag #edlc2017 and #riu6.
