Special Education

Special Education
The Special Education Division provides high-quality instructional programs, related services and professional development support to local school districts to ensure that the needs of students with disabilities are met. The staff of educators and specialists works with students, parents and school district personnel to enhance the development of each student.

The School Age program currently offers classrooms for Autistic Support, Emotional Support and Multi-
disabilities Support.

Transition support (Life Skills) is provided through regularly scheduled Transition Coordinator meetings, the PAES Lab, and fully functioning Independent Living Apartment located on the first floor of the RIU6
headquarters building. Supported Employment is offered through a partnership with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), and the Department of Labor and Industry and RIU6 Job Coaches.

The Early Intervention (EI) program is designed for children from age three to kindergarten registration. The program provides services and support for families with children who have developmental delays. Delays may include speech, language, problem solving, vision, hearing, social, emotional or physical development. The staff works with the child and their family to enhance the child’s development and increase their ability to learn at the same level as their typically developing peers.

Our Related Services team of Speech Therapists, Teachers of the Hearing Impaired, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Mental Health Specialists, Behavior Specialists, and Autism Specialists works with the IEP Team and classroom staff to ensure that every student has the tools and accommodations they need to succeed.

The Training and Consultation Team (TaC) provides professional development and support to educators and administrators in a wide range of topics that include but are not limited to the following: Multi-Tier Support Systems, Science of Literacy, New Teacher Support, Co-Teaching, Paraprofessional Training, Transition, Inclusive Practices, Family Engagement, TBI Support and Behavior. Additionally, trainings can be tailored to the specific needs of the districts.
